  1. Love the pink caged stirrups and it was the first thing that caught my eye in that pic!
I've had great luck with Ovation suede half chaps. They have a nice stretchy panel in the back, are under $60 for a pair, and can take a beating. They fit me much better than Ariats, despite the wide variety of size combinations Ariat offers. I definitely recommend them!
In terms of saddle pads, I'm using a Matrix Woolback. You can add inserts if you wish and so far I haven't had any of the issues others have been having with their regular Woolbacks. I've washed it 3 times in the washer so far with no problems. So there's another option if you decide to get another Woolback in the future. 🙂

  2. I've looked (online) at the Matrix pads before and really like them! They're near-impossible to find used.. but they would absolutely be a good choice in the future if I splurge on a pad. Thank you for the reminder!

You're the first person I know to recommend the Ovations, so that's really excellent and I'll give those a try if the Ariats don't pan out this time around.

  3. I've had one of those dorky DaBrims in my trailer for two years now and I'd happily pass it to you if you want. It's the full size that looks like the brim of a 10-gallon Stetson. As you may have guessed I think they're way too dorky and I actually use a Salamander Beak, which is a) cheap b) not horrendously unattractive and c) totally replaces sunglasses. I didn't think I'd like it as much as I do – the only time it comes off is for night riding, when I want to see the stars!

  4. First thought: yes, sure!
Second thought: wait, let me look up what it actually looks like – WOW – okay, maybe not
Final thought: Salamander in my future. Totally worth the $20 to not look ridiculous. Thank you for the offer and the suggestion of a better product!
